A. Blinken
Just now, on the radio, I heard a conservative blah-blahing about "protecting liberty." I’m dumbfounded when I hear a conservative talk about freedom and liberty, and I wonder, What the hell are you talking about? Did you know that "liberty" means "free of arbitrary government interference"? You don’t want women to have freedom over their reproductive life. You don’t want protestors to have free speech. You continue to support a prohibition against marijuana, an amazingly safe drug, simply because you don’t like the people you imagine smoke it. You don’t want people to have the right to love a same-sexed person. You don’t want workers to have the right to organize, and you don’t want the working poor to have medical services. You love cops and mandatory minimums and militant DA’s and laws which regulate people, but not industry. What liberties do you refer to? Do you control-freaks mean you want us to have the right to be like you are? Now, don’t get me wrong, liberals are even harder on individual rights than conservatives, and they do it for the worst of all possible reason: your own good. But, at least they don’t pretend to be protecting freedom. I don’t expect you conservatives to stop hating liberty, or to stop talking about how to protect it; you have the liberty to continue, so far, anyway. I just want you to know, the rest of notice what hypocrites you are.
